The University of New Mexico's Continuing Education program is offering online "bootcamps" to help students qualify for technology jobs in New Mexico.
"University of New Mexico Continuing Education has chosen Fullstack Academy to power new tech bootcamps with working professionals in mind," the university said on its website. "Its graduates are equipped to succeed in the professional world through Fullstack’s foundational teaching method, which allows students to thrive in their first job and every job after. Bootcamp grads also gain the assistance of a dedicated career services team and leave as members of a supportive alumni network that can help open doors to future career opportunities."
The university is offering three programs to choose from: cybersecurity analyst, data analyst, and devops engineer.
With the cybersecurity program, students can go from beginner to cybersecurity analyst in as few as 12 weeks, the university said. For data analysts and devops engineers, there is a 26-week time frame.
"You do not need to be a current student or alumni in order to apply to the Tech Bootcamps," the university said.
Students are required to be at least 18 and either a high school graduate or have a GED.
"All students must have their own laptop (or desktop for 100% online classes)," the university said. "We recommend having 16 GB RAM and ~50-100 GB storage. Netbooks, thin clients, and tablets are not permitted. Students can use Mac or Windows."
Scholarships and other forms of financial aid are available, and some employers offer tuition reimbursement, the university said.
