Bank of America will give a $250,000 grant to Albuquerque's science center for the addition of a studio.
The city’s Explora science center will utilize the funds to develop a new teen center called X Studio, which will consist of a STEAM component.
New Mexico President of Bank of America Paul Mondragon said that the state has an opportunity to make a significant impact to the science community and the grant was just a first step, according to KRQE.
“New Mexico has a legacy of science with some of America’s leading scientific minds right here, so Explora’s new X Studio and its Cradle through Career STEAM campus will create exciting long-term career opportunities for our youth,” Mondragon said. “Bank of America invests in career development pathways for teens and young adults who are historically excluded from STEAM, ensuring equity and access to economic success.”
The estimated cost for the addition of a teen center to Explora is $4 million, according to KRQE. The science center has long-range mission to develop its "Cradle through Career” Learning Campus, which calls for STEAM-based preschool.
Eminetra is reporting that the science center is in Phase I of development of its “Cradle through Career Steam Learning Campus.”
Albuquerque-based Studio Southwest Architects is on board for the project and has stated on its website that X Studio will be a new facility for STEAM education and workforce development center intended to broaden Explora’s Next Great Minds initiative.
