'It’s terrible': Albuquerque's Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery again falls prey to vandalism

Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Albuquerque has become the target of vandalism once again this week, with trash and debris littering the grounds last week.

Cemetery Manager Josh Glass found most of the damage, including trash cans that were dumped over and small tokens being stolen from gravesites.

“It’s terrible to have to tell a family that someone came onto the park and did this,” Glass told KRQE.

Currently, officials believe the person responsible is a homeless man who has already been found on the cemetery grounds before, in addition to breaking into the main office on a different occasion, where employees found him and called the police, the station reported.

“It does happen often with our homeless problem here in Albuquerque most of the decisions we make about the park are made with the homeless in mind and how they will interact with us,” said Glass. “It keeps me up at night worrying about what goes on here in the evening.”

Many of the families with loved ones that have been laid to rest in the cemetery had found out about the vandalism via Facebook, while others discovered the damage to their gravesites in person.
