Lobo volleyball falls to Colorado State, takes on Cowgirls next

The University of New Mexico women's volleyball was defeated by Colorado State in straight sets on Thursday, 25-13, 25-13, 25-20. 

Entering the matchup, the Lobos were off to their best start since 2013 and were tied with Colorado State and UNLV 5-1 to lead the conference, according to a UNM release.

In the third set, the Lobos and Rams tied 10 times and saw seven lead changes before the Colorado State finally claimed the win, another release said. Colorado State improves to 6-1 in conference. The Lobos drop to 14-4 for the season, 5-2 in conference and will continue on the road to face off against the Wyoming Cowgirls on 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m.

The Lobos have lost the last six matches they have played against the Cowgirls, with their last win against them coming in 2017, according to UNM. The Cowgirls entered the weekend at 4-5 at home, 4-6 in three sets, 4-1 in four sets and 2-1 in five sets.

UNM entered their Colorado State matchup following hard fought wins over Utah State and Boise State.

"UNM has shown its resolve this season, and particularly last week, when the Lobos dropped the first set against both the Aggies and the Broncos, answering to win the second and third sets in both matches," according to the press release.
