The University of New Mexico Lobo women's basketball team held its first practice of the season this week as it looks to build on last year’s success.

Head Coach Mike Bradbury said that there are a lot of new faces on the squad, but the team’s spirits are great.

“It feels good, you know there is always a lot of excitement with day one. You know and it was good, good to get out here,” Bradbury told KRQE. “The youth is exciting, just because they are new and you don’t really know what you are getting, and clearly we don’t right now. So, we got a long way to go, but I think that is the most exciting thing.”

The Lobos are the defending Mountain West Champions but will have to an uphill battle to repeat as this year’s team has six freshmen. They'll be led by seniors Antonia Anderson and Jaedyn De La Cerda, according to KRQE.

UNM will play host to Lamar to begin the season on Tuesday, Nov. 9 as part of a home stand that includes Northern New Mexico (Nov. 12) and Prairie View A&M (Nov. 16).
