A University of New Mexico women’s soccer player has garnered Mountain West Freshman of the Week.

Zaria Katesigwa earned the recognition on Monday after leading the Lobos to two wins over the weekend, according to a release, while scoring her league-leading sixth goal of the season during competition against Wyoming.

Katesigwa scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 16th minute of the game to seal a 4-1 win, her third game-winning goal this season. She also registered an assist in the contest.

UNM is slated to host 9-1-1 (2-0-0) Utah State on Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m., and then Boise State on Oct. 3 at 1 p.m.

The Lobos will have to find a way to counter Utah State’s Jordan Foraker, who was awarded Offensive Player of the Week and Jocelyn Stephens, of Boise State, who was named Defensive Player of the Week.

The Lobos have scored 23 goals this season versus 10 by their opponents. Offensively, the team is led by Jadyn Edwards and Katesigwa six goals each.
