Non-stop daily flights will connect growing Albuquerque film industry to 'heart of Hollywood'

Starting next year, professionals in the film industry with be able to easily travel between Albuquerque International Sunport and Hollywood Burbank Airport now that Southwest Airlines has announced they'll be starting non-stop daily flights between the two.

Albuquerque officials believe the added service is proof of the city's film industry continues to grow and thrive, according to a release

"Albuquerque is on a solid path o be one of the largest high-tech and sustainable film production hubs in North America, so this new flight makes perfect sense and represents a major asset for filmmakers and the city alike," Cyndy McCrossen, film liaison for the City of Albuquerque's Film Office, said in the release. "It provides a direct connection to the heart of Hollywood, where most of the major studios are located."

According to KRQE, Hollywood Burbank Airport is located closer to the film studios in California than LAX. City officials also expect the new flight path will boost tourism by southern Californians in New Mexico.

According to the news release from Albuquerque International Sunport, Southwest plans to begin the daily flights on Jan. 17, 2022. Tickets can already be purchased through the airline's website.
