Bernalillo County leaders have decided that they will not mandate COVID-19 vaccinations yet, according to the Albuquerque Journal, in large part out of fear of losing public safety employees.

"Keep up the pressure!" Brett Kokinadis, 2nd vice chair Santa Fe Republicans, wrote in a tweet.

County Manager Julie Morgas Baca had sent a memo to the county workers earlier this week where she stated that she is against vaccine mandates for her employees at this time, and that this decision had been made after "significant consideration and monitoring," the Albuquerque Journal reported.

A spokesperson with the county said that Morgas Baca had spent months weighing the pros and cons of placing a vaccine mandate for county employees but ultimately decided it was in the best interest of everyone not to do so.

However, in her memo, Morgas Baca encouraged the people to get vaccinated because she might implement the mandate later if she felt it necessary and even offered a two-day bonus to vacation time to those who get vaccinated.
