The University of New Mexico women's cross country team got tabbed for fourth place nationally this week in the NCAA Division I National Coaches' Preseason Poll.
The Lobos have 15 NCAA National Championships appearances under their belts, 13 of them consecutive from 2008-2020, according to a press release by the school.
"To be voted by your peers to be one of the top teams in the country is quite humbling. We have been fortunate to have been to the NCAA Championships for 13 years straight and have 11 consecutive Top-10 finishes. That in itself shows the consistency and drive that the women who wear the turquoise have at the NCAA Finals," head coach Joe Franklin said in the release.
The Lobos currently have 293 points, which is only 15 points outside the top three spots: Stanford has 308 points, NC State has 318 points and No. 1 BYU has 322 points in the poll.
The Lobos return the entire 2020 squad that competed in the NCAA Championships last season, according to the school.
The first race of the season is on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational hosted by New Mexico State.
