New Mexico Director of Athletics Eddie Nuñez late last month discussed the school’s change to mobile ticketing, cashless parking, mobile concessions and the new clear bag policy for Lobos events.
Nuñez, at a press conference on Aug. 23, said in a video on the school's site that some of the changes address a 2018 audit, but the changes overall seek to improve the fan experience.
“That’s one of the things we strive to do over the last several years,” he said. “Of course, last year we didn’t have that opportunity because we didn’t have events ... Now, more than ever, between parking, tickets, and concessions, we’ll try to focus more than ever on that experience, from tailgating to leaving the venue.”
With the COVID-19 pandemic still ongoing give, an increase in cases precipitated by the delta variant, UNM is determined to ensure fans stay safe, Nuñez said.
He added that as another change to further address COVID-19 safety at events, there will be a focus on touchless processes such as mobile tickets.
“They can print them at home, which is important,” he said. “It’s easy to transfer. The [Albuquerque] Isotopes do it now. It’s very similar to what you have when you go to the airport with your boarding pass. Very similar process, but it’s new for us.”
Nuñez said that game day parking will also go digital, so that all parking will be replaced from the cash parking lots to digital sales.
"We purchased a system that'll help us to do this," he said.
Nuñez said the last thing is the clear bag policy, which will help with safety and security when getting into a venue.
"This is something that's industry standard moreso now than ever," he said. "We encourage our fans to go out there and purchase to those clear bags."
The clear bag policy will apply to all Lobos events.
