Chris Wehan signed a fresh contract with New Mexico United to play through the 2023 season.

Wehan had left to play the first part of the season with Orange County and to be closer to his family. New Mexico worked out a transfer fee deal with Orange County for Wehan to come back to United, according to KRQE.

“The fact that I’m coming back to a place I know so well is making this transition very easy,” Wehan said told by KRQE. “Obviously, a ton of guys that I am familiar with in the locker room, some new faces I’m starting to get to know. But, so many of the people and the players and staff are the same."

Wehan, a former Lobo and New Mexico United MVP, told KRQE that he is excited to be back.

According to KRQE, the New Mexico United has struggled to score in the last three matches, and Wehan's return give the team a needed boost.

“I’m just going to do my part to push the guys around me,” Wehan told KRQE. “Like I said, it’s a really quality group this year, from the guys that are in the starting 11, guys that aren’t. I’ve noticed that in my first couple of days of training and it’s been exciting because, you know, iron sharpens iron. So, I’m really excited to join this group and hopefully, I will be a boost.”
