On the morning of Aug. 19, three Albuquerque police officers were shot after responding to a robbery near Mountain and Juan Tabo.
The injuries were sustained while searching for a suspect. One officer was shot at the base of his neck and was said to be in critical condition. Another was shot in an area of the chest covered by a bulletproof vest while a third was shot in the arm. The fourth officer sustained eye injuries.
"@ABQPOLICE officers are receiving emergency care after being shot in the line of duty this morning. This is a horrific act of violence and Liz and I join our community in praying for the officers, their families, and the team working to find the remaining suspect," Mayor Tim Keller said in a tweet.
The police department also tweeted about the incident, saying it was "responding to a critical incident" at the time.
Additionally, Kennedy Middle School, Jackson Middle School, Chelwood Elementary School, Tomasita Elementary School, McCollum Elementary School and Manzano High School were all put on "shelter in place" while the APD was responding to the incident.
