Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller recently requested a bond be placed on the November ballot for a new stadium for the New Mexico United soccer team.

The project would be located either at the Railyard Site, Coal and Broadway, 12th and Interstate-40 and 2nd and Iron, the Pinon Post reported.

“Since the team came in 2018, @NewMexicoUTD has captured the spirit of our city and become an outstanding community partner,” Keller wrote in a July 25 Twitter post. “While we face challenges on a number of fronts in our city, we must look forward and invest in projects that will lift up our state for decades to come.”

The bond to pay for the stadium would raise taxes on residents to come up with the $65-70 million needed to build the new location, according to the Pinon Post. Other projects that Keller has raised taxes to help build include the Albuquerque Rapid Transit project, the city’s “Office of Equity and Inclusion” and the $30,000 rainbow crosswalks.

New Mexico United is known for its liberal stance and is supportive of the LGBT community and the Black Lives Matter movement.
