The Intertribal Ceremonial Office is exclusively partnering with Albuquerque’s KOB 4 to produce an hour-long special on the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial entitled “Spirit of The Ceremonial.”

A press release issued by the New Mexico Tourism Department on July 16 said the TV program, which is sponsored by the City of Gallup, is currently in production.

“We’re excited to work with local partners and tribal communities to bring the Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial to a global audience,” ICO Executive Director Melissa Sanchez said in the release. “This exclusive partnership with KOB TV is the perfect opportunity to showcase one of New Mexico’s signature cultural events to a global audience this year while preparing to promote next year’s centennial celebration of the event.”

“Spirit of the Ceremonial” will feature a presentation of the 99-year-old New Mexico Native American festival, an annual event held every August at the Red Rock Park in Gallup with the exception of last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Performances will show Native American dance group highlights, award-winning art, historical milestones and more, the release stated.

The broadcast will be premiere Aug.19 at 9 p.m.
