After meeting with a group whose focus is addressing Santa Fe housing issues such as access and affordability, Mayor Alan Webber called for a "constructive agenda for housing."

Webber made the statement in a Facebook post after attending a meeting last week with the Santa Fee Habitat for Humanity at Unitarian Universalist Congregation on West Barcelona Road.

"Housing continues to be a #1 issue facing our community," Webber wrote. "It is essential that we move forward with a constructive agenda for housing, one that includes partnerships with great community organizations like Habitat for Humanity. Glad to be here today!"

The Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity said in a Facebook post that "it was a pleasure" for Webber to attend its board of directors meeting, during which Santa Fe's affordable housing issues and the nonprofit’s "urgent need for land" were discussed.

"The mayor provided valuable insight on how our nonprofit can purchase or seek land donations to build more Habitat homes," the group wrote. "In his presentation, the mayor discussed Santa Fe’s housing strategy, the underlying issues of homelessness and urgency COVID created to further address these issues. It was informative to learn more about how all the pieces of the housing puzzle fit together in our city and actions the City of Santa Fe is taking to create housing solutions."

Webber, a Democrat, has been mayor of Santa Fe since his election in 2018. This past March, he announced he would run for a second term.

So far, Webber is set to face competition from former Republican U.S. House candidate Alexis Martinez and City Councilor JoAnne Vigil Coppler, a Democrat, in November's mayoral race.
