Joseph William Maes

October 31, 1953 ~ June 14, 2021 (age 67)

Tribute

Joseph “Billy” Maes, 67, passed away on June 14, 2021.  Billy was born October 31, 1953 in Santa Fe, New Mexico to Basilio Maes and Jane (Quintana) Maes. He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved grandparents.

Billy is survived by his long-time girlfriend Sallie Urban, daughter Meghan Maes (Joel Makolin, boyfriend), sister Linda Babcock (Steve, husband), brother Basilio “Sonny” Maes Jr. (Christine, wife) and sister Darlene Balduini (Dan, husband). He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He graduated from Santa Fe High School and then enlisted in the US Army. From there he traveled the world serving our country and enjoyed life outside of the place he called home all of his life. Billy was an advocate and supporter of the American Legion, Wounded Warrior Project and all branches of the Military.

As an athlete and extremely passionate sports fan, he played and watched as much sports as he could until his passing. His love of the Cowboys, Lakers (2020 Champions), Dodgers (2020 Champions) and White Sox were always the topic of every conversation, even if they were losing. An avid bowler, Billy enjoyed the leagues and tournaments he bowled in – his high game is 297 – and more importantly, he loved the people he bowled with that created the memories and friendships he so cherished.

Billy was a family man that looked forward to spending as much time with them as he could. He will be missed by his New Mexico and Illinois family with whom he enjoyed visiting and sharing a good laugh! Everyone who knew him or was lucky enough to be blessed with his LOVE of jokes also got to experience his handsome smile!
