Douglas “Doug” Platt Peterson, age 92, of Santa Fe passed away on June 21, 2021 at Kingston Residence. Doug was born on April 2, 1929 in Denver, Colorado. His family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico when he was 10. Doug graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1947 and from The University of Colorado at Boulder in 1951. On a train trip to Boulder during his freshman year, he met fellow freshman, Patricia “Patsy” Tondre of Los Lunas, New Mexico. They began dating and married in 1951. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2021.

Doug began working for Mountain Bell in 1951. After a two-year stint in the army, during which time Doug and Patsy lived in Baltimore, Maryland, they returned to New Mexico where Doug resumed his career. Doug worked a variety of jobs with “The Phone Company” for over thirty years while he and Patsy raised three sons and one daughter. His favorite job was as the manager of the Santa Fe branch from 1965-1975, and he ended his career in 1984 as the manager of Northern New Mexico.

Doug and Patsy retired in Santa Fe in their beloved home in Park Plazas. Doug kept busy in retirement as a volunteer at El Rancho de las Golondrinas where he gave tours and taught classes in New Mexico history. Doug’s knowledge of New Mexico history was vast, and he prepared and delivered many lectures to churches, civics organizations, and retirement homes. He also led historical walking tours in downtown Santa Fe.

Doug and Patsy moved to Kingston Residence in Santa Fe in 2019.

Doug was a wonderful husband and father. He had gentlemanly manners, and his kindness and generosity endeared him to family, friends and co-workers.   

Doug was predeceased by his son Mark, and is survived by his wife Patsy, sister Dorothy Randall, sons Matthew (Mary), Stephen (Violet), Douglas (Teresa), daughter Gretchen, grandchildren Sam, Paul, Jerilyn, Melissa, Douglas, Felipe, Nicole, Diane, Irene, and great-grandchildren Hawk and Penny.
