Albuquerque ranks as the ninth most dangerous city in America, as detailed in an FBI report on violent crime

For the city of Albuquerque, the violent crime rate is 1,352 per 100,000 residents, as described by a CBS News article showing the rating of the most dangerous cities in the United States.

"No. 9 Albuquerque, New Mexico, for most dangerous city in America. We deserve better!" State Rep. Stefani Lord, who represents New Mexico's 22nd District, said in a Twitter post

In 2019, there were 84 murders in the city of Albuquerque, as described in city statistics, released from the FBI

The violent crime rate in Albuquerque is more than four times that of the average in the United States, as noted by World Atlas

Only a quarter of the state's population lives in Albuquerque, but the city's crime rate represents half the states total, World Atlas reported.

Additionally, according to World Atlas, property crime is especially high in the city of Albuquerque.

The Albuquerque Police Department reports that there were 76 non-negligent homicides in 2020, which was actually down from 80 in 2019, as noted in an Albuquerque Journal article. However, from January through April, Albuquerque added 41 homicides, the Albuquerque Journal reported.

Statistics from the Albuquerque Police Department listed 61 homicides this year as of June 27. There were 11 homicides so far this month in the city.

"If we maintain this pace, we’re going to top last year’s total before the end of August," said columnist Joel Jacobsen in the Albuquerque Journal

Jacobsen says that if the city of Albuquerque continues at its current rate, the homicide rate for this year will be 21.6 per 100,000.

In 2020, it was 13.3 per 100,000.

"By international standards, we still live in the Wild West," said Jacobsen in his Albuquerque Journal column
