Mariano Gene Gonzales, 79, passed peacefully on June 1, 2021, with family by his side. He was a lifelong resident of Santa Fe, where he was born in November of 1941. After graduation from Santa Fe High School in 1959, he entered the world of business machines and began a successful career in that industry. In 1985 he and his beloved wife of 62 years, Sophie, opened Rocky Mountain Business Systems in Santa Fe. They later expanded the company with offices in Los Alamos and Albuquerque, where they are successful to this day. He lived life to the fullest—with hobbies including hunting, fishing, sport shooting, reloading, camping, and traveling—and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Mariano is preceded in death by his parents Claudio and Lourdes Gonzales. He is survived by his wife Sophie; his sons and their spouses, Michael and Mary, Raymond and Lisa, Tom and Myshelle; his grandchildren Mark (Tanya), Matt (Joe), Claudio (Nati), Dylan (Ryann), and Paolina; and his siblings Ruben (Marie), Helen, Gene (Grace), Connie (Carlos), and Dennis (Kathy).
Services will be held in Santa Fe with a viewing and rosary at Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, located at 1399 Luisa Street on June 7, 2021 at 6:00 PM. Mass services will take place at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, located at 1120 Canyon Road on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 10 AM, followed by interment at Rosario Cemetery, 499 North Guadalupe Street. Pallbearers will be his three sons and three of his grandchildren with his three brothers serving as honorary pallbearers.
