UNM honors three nurse practitioners inducted as fellows

Nurse practitioners are integral to New Mexico's health care system, addressing the needs of diverse communities across various specialties. Beyond patient care, some practitioners contribute significantly to solving complex health issues and advancing the profession. The American Association of Nurse Practitioners has recognized three nurse practitioners from The University of New Mexico College of Nursing for their exceptional contributions by inducting them as fellows.


Fire contained at Cerro Colorado Landfill

The City of Albuquerque Environmental Health Department’s Air Quality Program was notified of a fire at the Cerro Colorado Landfill on July 17, 2024. Bernalillo County Fire Rescue and Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to the scene, which is now contained. The Air Quality Program continues to monitor the situation and has not seen elevated smoke levels to require a health alert.


New Title IX guidelines set for implementation at University of New Mexico

New Title IX regulations and their impact on The University of New Mexico community were the focus of a virtual town hall hosted by the UNM Office of Compliance, Ethics & Equal Opportunity (CEEO) recently. The changes, released by the U.S. Department of Education in mid-April, are set to take effect on August 1, 2024.

Santa Fe County modifies senior center lunch schedules on July 26

On July 26, 2024, the Santa Fe County Senior Services Division will temporarily modify the lunch schedule for several senior centers to accommodate a special event for staff. The Bennie J. Chavez, Edgewood, El Rancho, Eldorado, and Rufina lunch sites will serve lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and the centers will close promptly at 1:00 p.m.


Hundreds gather at Wilson Block Party promoting nonviolence

On Sunday, July 14, more than 600 community members joined the City of Albuquerque’s Albuquerque Community Safety Department, Bernalillo County, City Councilor Nichole Rogers, and Bernalillo County Commissioner Adriann Barboa for a block party at Wilson Park and Pool in Albuquerque’s International District. City supports special session addressing public safety issues

City leaders are expressing general support for the special session this week and have sent a letter to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to convey the ongoing urgent need to address public safety concerns raised by the City in past regular sessions. A special session provides an opportunity to focus on critical issues like gun violence, mental and behavioral health, housing, and homelessness. With limited time available in regular 60/30-day sessions, there is little choice other than a special session for urgent policymaking.

UNM seeks renewal for Title V Operating Permit; public comment period announced

The Air Quality Program of the City of Albuquerque Environmental Health Department has received a Title V Operating Permit renewal application from the University of New Mexico. The owner of the facility is The Regents of UNM, located at 1800 Roma Ave. NE in Albuquerque, NM 87131. Based on the application and information received to date, the Program intends to issue such Title V Operating Permit renewal to the facility. The draft permit has been assigned Operating Permit Application No. 0536-RN2.


Fourteen UNM faculty members receive Women in STEM Awards

Fourteen faculty members at the University of New Mexico have been selected for the 2024 Women in STEM Awards. The 11 funded projects include a study of carbon storage in soils along the middle Rio Grande floodplain, an investigation into rural New Mexico healthcare workforce challenges and opportunities, and the development of new software for large-scale 3-D printing with adobe.


Albuquerque officials highlight recent transit safety operation outcomes

Mayor Tim Keller, Chief of Police Harold Medina, and Transit Director Leslie Keener highlighted a proactive transit safety operation along the Central Avenue corridor. The operation began two weeks ago in southeast Albuquerque with APD’s Southeast Proactive Response Team. PRT members from across the city saturated the Central Avenue corridor along the transit route from Tramway Boulevard to Coors Boulevard. Anne Ryan appointed Santa Fe County's new Community Services Director

Santa Fe, NM—Santa Fe County has announced the appointment of Anne Ryan as the new Community Services Director, succeeding Rachel O’Connor, who retired after thirteen years in the role. Ryan, who joined the County as Deputy Director this spring, brings nearly thirty years of experience in public health and social services.
