City of Albuquerque: APD initiates collaboration to Share Ballistics Database System with Isleta PD

The City of Albuquerque has announced a collaboration between the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) and the Pueblo of Isleta Police Department (IPD) to share the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN). This partnership was established through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed on September 6, 2023. Under this MOA, the IPD will have access to the NIBIN system to aid in their investigations of violent felony cases within their jurisdiction.

The City of Albuquerque recently announced that thousands of "Vial of L.I.F.E" kits have been prepared by volunteers and will be distributed to seniors in the area. The kits were assembled by 50 volunteers from the Department of Senior Affairs' AmeriCorps Seniors program as part of their 9/11 National Day of Service initiative. The kits include a sticker, magnet, and a medical information form, and are intended to benefit clients of the Department of Senior Affairs' home delivered meals and senior services programs.

On September 7, 2023, 50 volunteers from the Department of Senior Affairs’ AmeriCorps Seniors program came together to assemble 2,500 kits, which will be distributed to seniors in Albuquerque. These kits are specifically intended for clients of the Department of Senior Affairs' home delivered meals and senior services programs.

The City of Albuquerque shared on Sept. 6 that the city council had given its approval to OC-23-38, appointing Isaac Padilla as the director of City Council Services, according to a press release. The 2022 Albuquerque Police Department Annual Use of Force Report was recently released to the public, and it showed a few new trends. Overall, there was a decline in the number of incidents that used force by the APD, but an increase in the number of shootings by APD officers, numbers that alarmed some in the Albuquerque community.

The City of Albuquerque revealed on Sept. 6 that Season 3 of the TV series "Bands of Enchantment Albuquerque Sessions" will record 10 nights of live music at the historic KiMo Theatre, with shows running from Sept. 15 to 25. The opening night on Sept. 15, scheduled from 8 to 10 p.m., will showcase Prism B!tch, a locally acclaimed band, according to a press release.

Los Alamos National Laboratory announces installation of newest supercomputer

Los Alamos National Laboratory gathered components, during the summer months, for the installation of Crossroads, the laboratory's newest supercomputer, teaming with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), an on-site team and system provider, to finalize its connection to the lab's power and cooling distribution systems. Once the new system was operating, Los Alamos National Laboratory also announced the integration of fiber optical cables into the high-performance computing (HPC) network at the laboratory.

NMSU: Enrollment has increased across all campuses and has returned to pre-pandemic levels in Las Cruces

New Mexico State University (NMSU) revealed on Sept. 6 that enrollment figures for the NMSU system indicate a nearly 3% increase compared to the previous fall, with the Las Cruces campus surpassing pre-pandemic enrollment levels, according to a press release. The preliminary data from the university's fall census date of Sept. 1 reports a systemwide enrollment count of 21,829 for fall 2023, marking a 2.9% rise from fall 2022.
