New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) has announced an open position for a Librarian/Cataloger. The role is full-time, exempt, and offers an annual salary of $50,000.
NMMI is a state-supported, co-educational institution that provides college preparatory education at both the high school and junior college levels. The institute serves up to 1,000 cadets and includes Junior and Senior Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs. Its curriculum is fully accredited for high school students preparing for higher education, while the junior college program helps cadets transfer to four-year institutions. NMMI also operates the Intermediate Preparatory Academy (IPA) for grades 6-8.
The Librarian/Cataloger will work under the supervision of the Associate Director of the Paul Horgan Library and the McBride Museum. Responsibilities include managing information resources and services for cadets, faculty, staff, and other users of the library, museum, and archives. Duties involve categorizing and classifying various materials according to established standards such as Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, Library of Congress subject headings, Dewey Decimal Classification, MARC21, and RDA.
Candidates must have a master’s degree in library science from an American Library Association-accredited program. Additionally, they are required to obtain a Professional Librarians Certificate from the New Mexico State Library within six months of employment. Preferred qualifications include three to five years of professional librarian experience and bilingual abilities.
