Conservation officers from the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish are seeking public assistance regarding damage to property at the Hammond Tract Wildlife Management Area. The incident occurred along the San Juan River near Blanco, NM, where a bear-proof dumpster was moved approximately 100 yards from its original location. The dumpster was found obstructing the road leading to the wildlife management area, with one of its doors bent backward, compromising its bear-proof feature.
This situation poses a risk to local wildlife, which could access the contents of the damaged dumpster. The Department's Wildlife Management Areas are supported by sportsmen and remain accessible to the public with a Habitat Management & Access Validation (HMAV) Stamp.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Bloomfield Corporal Justin Heppler at 575-781-0044.
