The New Mexico Human Services Department's Child Support Services Division is seeking public assistance to distribute approximately $1.2 million in undelivered child support payments. Betina Gonzales McCracken, the Child Support director, explained that these funds remain unclaimed due to issues such as outdated addresses, expired checks, or payments made without identifiable information.
"There is nothing that would make us happier than finding the rightful owners of these funds and getting the money into the households to which it is owed," McCracken said. The division reviews undistributed collections monthly and has managed to return a significant portion of the funds to families. Since 2023, there has been a 4.4% decrease in undistributed collections overall, yet $1.2 million remains on hold due to incomplete or outdated information.
The department urges current or former child support recipients who suspect they are owed payments to contact them with detailed information such as updated contact details, payment specifics including date and source, and direct deposit information if applicable. Those potentially connected to these funds can reach out to the Health Care Authority’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-283-4465 for further assistance.
