Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, the chief executive of New Mexico, recently posted a series of updates on her social media account addressing weather changes, economic disparities for Latina women, and the launch of a new kinship care initiative.
On November 13, 2025, Governor Lujan Grisham alerted residents to upcoming shifts in weather conditions. She stated, “Weather changes are on the way for New Mexico. From the US National Weather Service: ‘Confidence is increasing that western and north central NM will be favored for rain and mountain snow Sunday through early Monday. Until then, near record temperatures will be on tap! High’”.
The following day, she highlighted ongoing wage inequality affecting Latina women in the United States. On November 14, 2025, she wrote, “Latina women in the US earn just 57 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men—the largest wage gap of any demographic group. For generations, Latinas have been undervalued and underpaid for their labor, from agricultural work to domestic service to professional”. This statement draws attention to persistent pay disparities documented by national labor statistics and advocacy organizations.
Later that same day, Governor Lujan Grisham announced a new state program aimed at supporting kinship caregivers. In her post from November 14, she said, “New Mexico is now accepting applications for the Kinship Caregiver Pilot Program in Rio Arriba and San Juan counties. This three-year initiative supports grandparents and relatives who have stepped up to raise children—connecting them with case management, legal assistance,”. The Kinship Caregiver Pilot Program represents an effort by New Mexico’s government to assist families where relatives assume primary caregiving roles when parents are unable or unavailable.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has previously focused on family support initiatives and addressing socioeconomic inequalities as part of her administration’s broader agenda.
