A Farmington man has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison, and his wife received probation, for their roles in a violent assault that took place in 2023.

Court records show that on July 28, 2023, Renauldo Sandoval, age 40 and an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, assaulted Jane Doe during an argument by slamming her into a wall and strangling her until she lost consciousness. Lisa Sandoval, age 39 and also an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, then held Jane Doe down.

Renauldo Sandoval was sentenced to 46 months in prison with no possibility of parole under federal law. After completing his sentence, he will be placed on supervised release for three years. Lisa Sandoval was sentenced to five years of probation.

Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced the sentences. The case was investigated by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with support from the Navajo Nation Police Department and the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant United States Attorney Meg Tomlinson is prosecuting the case.

The announcement was made public on November 13 following the conclusion of a federal government shutdown.
