Bernalillo County DA Sam Bregman reports on homicide convictions and Veterans Day message

Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman reported on several recent criminal cases and commemorative messages through his official social media account. The posts detailed convictions and sentencing in two separate homicide cases in Albuquerque, as well as a public statement recognizing veterans.

On November 10, 2025, Bregman announced the conviction of Juan Carlos Garcia for second-degree murder. According to the post: "ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A man has been convicted in the 2024 stabbing death of Luis Romero. Juan Carlos Garcia, 25, was found guilty of second-degree murder for fatally stabbing Romero twice in the back during a dispute over money. The two men fought over $300 that Garcia believed" (posted November 10, 2025).

The following day, Bregman used his platform to honor military service members. He stated: "The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office extends our deepest gratitude to all veterans for their service and sacrifice." (posted November 11, 2025).

On November 12, Bregman shared information about another major case outcome involving a deadly shooting. He wrote: "Albuquerque Man Sentenced to Nearly 30 Years for Deadly Shooting Today a judge sentenced Jamil Lewis to 27 years in the New Mexico Corrections Department. In June, Lewis pleaded guilty to several charges, including second-degree murder, aggravated battery, and being a felon with" (posted November 12, 2025).
