Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández, a U.S. Representative from New Mexico, addressed issues concerning veterans and congressional conduct in a series of posts on November 12, 2025.
In an early morning post, Leger Fernández honored veterans and emphasized the responsibility to support them: "Our Veterans fought for freedom, for democracy, for the right to belong to a place as beautiful and diverse as New Mexico. Now it’s our turn to fight for them—so no Veteran ever goes hungry, without care, or without a home. We honor you today and every day. " (November 12, 2025).
Later that morning, she criticized Republican lawmakers' work ethic following a congressional recess: "Republicans won’t even do their job after an 8-week taxpayer funded vacation… you can’t make this stuff up." (November 12, 2025).
Shortly after, Leger Fernández called for support of her proposed amendment aimed at eliminating what she described as improper financial benefits: "He should vote for my amendment to get rid of this corrupt backdoor Republican Senator payout." (November 12, 2025).
Leger Fernández has held her seat since winning the general election in New Mexico's third congressional district in 2020 against Alexis Martinez Johnson with nearly 59% of the vote. She was re-elected in both 2022 and 2024; most recently defeating Sharon Clahchischilliage in the general election by a narrow margin.
