Two candidates supported by the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce have been elected to the Albuquerque Public School Board. Courtney Jackson and Josh Martinez won their respective districts by large margins, according to a statement from the Chamber.
Peter Lorenz, chairman of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, commented on the results: “And we’re deeply disappointed in the outcome of the other two contests. With Danielle Gonzales’ loss, the APS Board is losing one of the most well-prepared and knowledgeable members it has ever had.”
Lorenz also noted that over the past four years, there has been bipartisan leadership on the board focused on improving student performance in reading and math. He stated that this focus has led to significant progress with positive indications for continued improvement.
Terri Cole, president and CEO of the Chamber, outlined future priorities: “As we move forward, the Chamber will focus on policies that prioritize academic achievement, career academies and support for Superintendent Gabriella Durán Blakey.”
