Lockheed Martin has announced the launch of STAR.OS, a new solution designed to improve how artificial intelligence (AI) systems work together. The platform aims to address the challenge of integrating different AI tools by offering a unified framework for deployment, particularly in support of national security.
The STAR.OS system includes three main components: a developer toolkit (STAR.SDK), an interoperability layer (STAR.IO), and a user interface (STAR.UI). These elements are intended to help developers create and deploy AI services efficiently, connect various AI systems so they can share information, and provide operators with real-time insights into system performance.
“With the STAR.OS solution, we're taking a major step forward in our ability to bring together different AI systems and make them work together seamlessly,” said Mike Baylor, Lockheed Martin vice president and chief digital AI officer. “This will help us provide more effective and efficient solutions to our customers and ultimately help them make more informed decisions and stay ahead of emerging threats.”
According to Lockheed Martin, early uses of STAR.OS have supported government clients such as the Department of War. The technology has been applied in areas like threat detection at sea and missile warning. In an internal hackathon called AI Fight Club, STAR.OS demonstrated its capacity to integrate multiple AI services within a digital environment.
