Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández addresses healthcare policy and shutdown impacts in recent posts

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández, a U.S. Congresswoman from New Mexico, used her social media platform this week to address concerns over health care policy and the ongoing government shutdown, while also celebrating recent electoral outcomes.

On November 4, 2025, Leger Fernández invited constituents in Taos to participate in an upcoming event by posting: " Taos! Join me THIS THURSDAY, Nov. 6 at 5:30pm for a Health Care Town Hall. ACA tax credits are expiring without Congressional action & Republican cuts to Medicare/Medicaid threaten seniors, families & rural care. Come share your story with me and ask me your questions." The announcement comes amid legislative uncertainty regarding Affordable Care Act tax credits and proposed reductions to federal health programs.

Later that same day, she commented on the impact of the government shutdown on federal employees and elected officials: "Federal workers aren’t getting paid and neither am I. We’re all in this boat together. Republicans could end this by opening the government and protecting affordable healthcare." Her remarks reflect ongoing partisan disagreements over funding measures that have left many federal operations suspended.

Following Election Day results on November 5, Leger Fernández posted a message about the broader significance of recent votes: "What a night. Tonight, voters chose hope, dignity, and a future where every family can not just afford to live, but can believe in a future that is better because we work together. Congratulations to my colleagues and fellow @DemWomenCaucus joyful warriors Abigail Spanberger".

Leger Fernández has held her congressional seat since first winning election in 2020 against Alexis Martinez Johnson with 58.7% of the vote. She retained her seat again in both 2022 and 2024 general elections against different opponents.
