Melody Ranch Water Company (MRWC) customers are set to receive safe and reliable drinking water following efforts by several New Mexico state agencies. The New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management has started transporting water to MRWC, addressing low supply levels caused by infrastructure issues.
Torrance County's state of emergency declaration prompted the Governor’s Office to issue an executive order. This order allocated funds for hauling and delivering additional water to MRWC customers. It also provided resources for the New Mexico Environment Department to conduct water quality testing, ensuring compliance with safe drinking standards.
The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) has issued an order preventing MRWC from charging for state-supplied water. The commission also directed MRWC to monitor its well production and the volume of water delivered by state agencies.
The NMPRC emphasizes the importance of providing safe and reliable access to water as a priority. The agency is collaborating with the community, MRWC, and other stakeholders to secure long-term solutions for reliable water service.
