A New Mexico lawmaker has launched a website designed to report and track U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities across the state. This move has drawn criticism from House Republican Leader Gail Armstrong, who argues that such actions could jeopardize law enforcement efforts.
"The far-left progressive state representative crossed a line," Armstrong said. "Launching a website to monitor and report ICE operations endangers officers, compromises investigations, and could obstruct federal law." She emphasized the challenges New Mexico faces with drug trafficking and illegal border activity, suggesting that the website might aid criminals in evading accountability.
Armstrong further remarked on the responsibilities of legislators: "Legislators have a duty to protect New Mexicans, not to undermine those who are sworn to enforce federal law. We must not let ideological experiments compromise our statewide efforts to combat drug-trafficking, illegal border crossings, and criminal networks exploiting our communities."
Gail Armstrong was elected as a Republican representative for New Mexico's 49th House district in 2017, succeeding Don Tripp.
