Jason R. Bowie, Cabinet Secretary | New Mexico Department of Public Safety
The Information Technology Division (ITD) of the New Mexico Department of Public Safety plays a key role in supporting law enforcement and the broader criminal justice community in the state. According to the department, the ITD’s mission extends beyond technical troubleshooting, with a primary focus on officer safety.
"ITD supports all divisions within the Department of Public Safety as well as the entire criminal justice community across New Mexico and provides a range of services to both internal and external customers," the department stated. The division’s work includes supporting technological advancements used in law enforcement, such as body cameras and license plate readers.
The department highlighted the importance of technology in public safety, noting, "Everyone is aware of how useful advances in technology can be in everyday life. Law enforcement is no different from the use of body cameras to license plate readers – there are many helpful tools to assist every day in the work. ITD is committed to working closely with partners to provide state of the art innovative solutions and deliver the systems and services needed to keep the public and officers safe."
The ITD manages information for law enforcement quickly, which the department says can be critical to saving lives. The division comprises 60 professionals and supports more than 300 organizations, including public safety agencies, law enforcement, and other private and public sector employers who require criminal background information.
The ITD also maintains partnerships with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies at both the local and national levels.
