The New Mexico Department of Veterans' Services (NMDVS) will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Angel Fire on November 11, 2025. The event is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. The memorial, located at 34 Country Club Road, Angel Fire, NM, was originally built by Victor and Jeanne Westphall in 1971 to honor their son, Marine 1st Lt. David Westphall.
David Westphall was among sixteen Marines from Bravo Company/Third Division who died in an ambush by North Vietnamese forces near the border of North and South Vietnam on May 22, 1968. The monument was dedicated three years later on the anniversary of his death.
Initially managed by the all-volunteer David Westphall Foundation, the memorial was donated to the State Parks Division in 2005. In 2017, management responsibilities were transferred to NMDVS.
Details about the schedule of events for this year's ceremony will be announced soon.
