Marshall Martinez - Executive Director | Equality New Mexico
Equality New Mexico (EQNM), an advocacy and public education organization for LGBTQ individuals in the state, has announced a job opening for a part-time, temporary Development & Engagement Strategist. The position is designed to help EQNM meet its fundraising goals and support its organizational growth.
The role requires experience in grant writing, event planning, donor cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation. However, EQNM also values transferable skills and a willingness to learn. According to the announcement, "If you’re eager to grow your fundraising skills and want to contribute to building community power, we’d love to hear from you."
The position is hourly with an average of 20 hours per week at a starting rate of $18.50 per hour or higher depending on experience. The role is set for 26 weeks with potential for extension or conversion into a full-time position if budget allows. The Development & Engagement Strategist will report directly to EQNM’s Chief Liberation Officer.
Key responsibilities include assisting the Executive Director and Board of Directors in developing fundraising plans; helping organize events; communicating with donors; supporting grant applications; working with communications staff on fundraising materials; identifying potential donors; facilitating committee meetings; compiling progress reports; and collaborating on special projects.
Applicants should have strong communication skills, access to reliable internet service, organizational abilities, familiarity with Google Suite programs, flexibility regarding work hours—including evenings and weekends—and be able to travel as needed. Work can be conducted either at EQNM’s Albuquerque office or remotely.
EQNM emphasizes its commitment to justice by prioritizing outreach within Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities among LGBTQ New Mexicans. The organization addresses issues such as reproductive care access, worker protections including equitable pay and time off, racial justice and equity—particularly concerning systemic biases in the criminal justice system.
"EQNM is proud to be an advocacy organization that speaks not on behalf of, but in unison with, LGBTQ people across New Mexico," the organization stated. "We seek opportunities to align with people and systems of power to create a state where all of us thrive — and we don’t shy away from engaging authentically with institutions when their decisions harm our communities."
Diversity is highlighted as central in the recruitment process: "EQNM is committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and we encourage People of Color, Women, Trans folks, and people of various experience levels to apply! We know that the systems of higher education and previous job experience often further marginalize strategically undervalued/resources communities like People of Color, Women, Trans and Queer folks."
Interested candidates are invited to apply via Google Form or by emailing marshall@eqnm.org.
