Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández calls for end to shutdown and urges Speaker Johnson’s action

U.S. Representative Teresa Leger Fernández posted a series of messages on her official X account in October 2025 addressing the ongoing federal government shutdown, its impact on workers, and calling for action from House leadership.

On October 9, 2025, Rep. Leger Fernández wrote: "If you are a federal worker who needs additional resources during this shutdown please look here: https://t.co/I6g8zMujaW https://t.co/hSulAXw6YK". The post provided a link to resources for federal employees affected by the shutdown.

Later that day, she directly addressed House Speaker Johnson with a call to action regarding the healthcare crisis and child care affordability. In her message dated October 9, 2025, Rep. Leger Fernández stated: "Speaker Johnson—you have the power to help this mother and so many others afford care for their children.

Stop the healthcare crisis, negotiate with Democrats, bring us back to work to reopen the government."

On October 10, 2025, she highlighted efforts made by New Mexico during the crisis: "New Mexico delivered, but we can’t do it alone."

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández has represented New Mexico in Congress since her first election victory in 2020 over Alexis Martinez Johnson. She retained her seat through subsequent elections in 2022 against Alexis Martinez Johnson again and in 2024 against Sharon Clahchischilliage.
