Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández calls for action on pay equity, bipartisanship, and disaster relief

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández, a U.S. Representative from New Mexico, addressed issues ranging from pay equity to disaster relief and bipartisan health care action in a series of posts on October 8, 2025.

In a tweet marking a decade of Latina Equal Pay Day, Leger Fernández stated, "Today marks 10 years of recognizing Latina Equal Pay Day — and still, Latinas do not get equal pay for equal work. Latinas are vital to our economy and our communities, yet remain underpaid and undervalued across every industry. Equal pay can’t wait. Latinas deserve justice" (October 8, 2025).

Later the same day, she called for bipartisan cooperation in Congress, referencing her home state's approach: "New Mexico proved bipartisanship works. It’s time for Republicans in Congress to follow our lead and act before this health care crisis puts millions of Americans at risk." (October 8, 2025).

Leger Fernández also highlighted federal disaster assistance, noting a recent milestone: "The Hermit’s Peak-Calf Canyon office just reached $3 Billion paid out to families affected by the fire. This is a big milestone, but I need all the funding Congress got for New Mexicans to be paid now. No more delays." (October 8, 2025).

Leger Fernández has represented New Mexico in Congress since 2021. She won her seat by defeating Alexis Martinez Johnson in both 2020 and 2022 general elections, securing 58.7% of the vote in 2020 and 58.2% in 2022. In the most recent election in 2024, she defeated Sharon Clahchischilliage with a close margin.
