As we reach the conclusion of this anything-but-special legislative session, I find it more important than ever to share with New Mexico how the Democrats’ priorities truly harm our state. To make a long story short, the legislature accomplished absolutely nothing for concerned families in our state. Democrat lawmakers completely denied consideration for Republican proposals that addressed: public safety, reforming our disastrous Children, Youth, and Families Department, violent juvenile crime wave, and improved access to healthcare– especially for our rural communities.
Instead, Democrats thought it was more important to ram through legislation that expands the Governor’s executive powers in order to control and mandate vaccines for our children. If y’all remember the COVID-19 pandemic… this is deeply concerning for our state. Furthermore, Democrats also thought it was important to force you, yes YOU, to pay for more abortions through Planned Parenthood.
While doctors are fleeing our state and forcing folks where I live to drive hours to get basic healthcare, the Democrats prioritized using your tax dollars to kill more babies. Did you know that New Mexico aborted more than 21,000 babies last year compared to birthing only 18,000 babies? Our state may fail to offer basic and quality healthcare to New Mexicans but no one can dispute the fact that we are the best in the world at providing services to kill babies. It’s shameful and it goes to show you how the true needs of everyday New Mexicans mean nothing to the Democrats who run our state.
I will continue to fight for our communities but remember this: we are trying to work with people that prioritize the worst for our state, making it difficult to address even our state’s most important issues with the most commonsense solutions.
Candy Ezzell is a State Senator from New Mexico, Representing District 32.
