Deb Haaland has secured 2,505 nominating signatures for her New Mexico gubernatorial campaign in less than 24 hours, according to a statement from her campaign. The petition portal was opened by the New Mexico Secretary of State yesterday, and Haaland’s team reported that support continues to grow.
“This year I visited every county in the state and my vision to lower costs, improve education, make healthcare available and affordable, and tackle our crime issues is resonating with New Mexicans. I’m proud to have resounding support of the New Mexicans who signed the petition to help me get on the ballot,” said Deb Haaland.
In the first half-year of her campaign, Haaland visited all 33 counties in New Mexico. She participated in actions such as picketing with Creamland Dairy workers for better wages and benefits, supporting efforts to retain doctors by advocating for higher salaries for resident physicians, raising awareness about fentanyl use, and assembling hygiene packets for people experiencing homelessness.
Haaland has received endorsements from more than 100 individuals and organizations. These include U.S. Senator Ben Ray Lujan; U.S. Representatives Melanie Stansbury, Gabe Vasquez, and Theresa Leger Fernandez; former U.S. Senator Tom Udall; as well as groups like Common Defense, Conservation Voters of New Mexico, and New Mexico Native Vote.
The campaign states that Haaland’s background as a single mother who has lived paycheck to paycheck—and achieved 35 years of sobriety—shapes her approach to leadership. Her experience includes serving in Congress and leading the Department of the Interior.
