The University of New Mexico Alumni Association is seeking nominations for its annual UNM Alumni Awards, which recognize graduates who have made notable contributions in various fields. Nominations will be accepted until October 1.
There are eight awards available, each focusing on different areas of achievement. The James F. Zimmerman Award honors individuals whose work has brought recognition to the university or the state. The Bernard S. Rodey Award is for leadership in education, while the Erna S. Fergusson Award acknowledges distinguished service to UNM.
Other categories include the Zia Award for excellence in philanthropy, public service, community involvement, business, or education; the Lobo Award for outstanding personal service to UNM or career achievements that reflect positively on the university; and the Inspirational Young Alumni Award for emerging alumni demonstrating leadership and excellence.
Two awards are reserved for current full-time faculty: the Faculty Teaching Award for exceptional teaching and student service, and the Research Award for outstanding research activity.
Nominations can be submitted online. Honorees will be recognized at a dinner event scheduled for February 2026.
"Everyone’s a Lobo, and there are a lot of us making positive change all over the world. The UNM Alumni Association wants to recognize those graduates doing great things but needs your help, and fast," according to a statement from the association.
