Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM) has announced its support for the implementation of Ranked Choice Voting in Albuquerque's municipal elections. The organization stated that this voting method, which allows voters to rank candidates by preference, has already been used in Santa Fe and Las Cruces.

According to CVNM, voters have found Ranked Choice Voting easy to use and effective. They report that the system more accurately reflects voter preferences and leads to higher satisfaction with election outcomes. CVNM also noted that the adoption of this system could help Albuquerque reduce costs by eliminating the need for separate runoff elections.

The group emphasized that expanding Ranked Choice Voting aligns with its mission to increase civic engagement and strengthen political participation across New Mexico. "Furthering the adoption of Ranked Choice Voting in New Mexico is a core component of CVNM’s mission to connect people to our civic process and political power," CVNM said in a statement.

CVNM believes that improved representation through this voting system can empower voters, boost confidence in local elections, and decrease polarization among candidates and voters.
