Kirtland Air Force Base recently hosted Chief Master Sergeant of the Space Force John Bentivegna, who visited to better understand local space operations and highlight the base's expanding role in national defense. During his visit on September 4, Bentivegna engaged with Guardians, individuals involved in missions that ensure the nation's access to and freedom of action in space.
Bentivegna's agenda included receiving mission briefings from Space Systems Command (SSC) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), touring essential facilities, and conducting a town hall meeting with Guardians. The visit underscored Kirtland's strategic significance as it houses approximately 1,200 Guardians.
"Visiting bases like Kirtland allows me to witness firsthand the incredible work our Guardians are doing," Bentivegna said. "These visits serve as a reminder of the sacrifices that our Guardians make daily, and I am beyond honored to witness it and advocate on their behalf. The work being done here, from research and development to operational support and joint integration, is vital to our success in the space domain and our ability to protect the nation."
The trip also highlighted collaboration between SSC, AFRL, and partner organizations at Kirtland. These entities are at the forefront of research, development, and operational efforts crucial for maintaining U.S. space superiority. Their work ranges from advancing satellite technology to pioneering new space systems that directly contribute to national security.
The Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce recognizes Kirtland Air Force Base's significant role in these efforts.
