The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) has closed its Downtown Albuquerque office, shifting all in-person services to the Rio Rancho field office. This move is temporary until a new location in Albuquerque opens in late Fall 2025. The closure comes after persistent mechanical issues at the Springer Square Building, located at 121 Tijeras Ave. NE.
Services such as new business permits, permit renewals, and technical assistance will no longer be available at the old Albuquerque site. Instead, these services can now be accessed at the NMED Rio Rancho field office located at 4359 Jager Dr. NE, Suite B in Rio Rancho. For inquiries about services at this location, individuals can contact (505) 771-5980.
In related news, the New Mexico Environment Department has confirmed that Las Vegas drinking water remains safe despite concerns over post-fire runoff from the Hermits Peak and Calf Canyon Fire affecting the city's water supply. More details on this can be found on KRQE's website.
