Eastern New Mexico University’s Office of Hispanic Affairs is marking National Hispanic Heritage Month with a series of events on campus. The celebration, which runs from September 15 to October 15, will feature speaking engagements, music programs, and other activities.
National Hispanic Heritage Month was first established as a week-long observance by President Lyndon Johnson in 1968. It was later expanded to a month by President Ronald Reagan and became law in 1988. The month encourages citizens to recognize the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the country’s history and culture.
Ross Barbosa, coordinator for the Office of Hispanic Affairs at ENMU, said, “As the Office of Hispanic Affairs, we are excited to celebrate with the fun and learning events we have for the community. From craft nights to Salsa dance lessons, there will be something for everyone to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.”
All events are open to both the public and members of the ENMU community. Information about event locations and times can be found at enmu.edu/Events.
