Bernalillo County DA Sam Bregman announces major convictions and thanks first responders

Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman posted a series of updates on September 11, 2025, highlighting key legal outcomes and expressing gratitude to first responders.

In an early post, Bregman acknowledged emergency personnel with a message: "To all our first responders - thank you." (September 11, 2025).

Later that day, Bregman reported on the sentencing of Donovan Bookout. He stated: "MAN WHO WENT ON CRIME SPREE THAT INCLUDED MURDER OF HOTEL SECURITY GUARD — SENTENCED TO LIFE PLUS 41 YEARS --

BACKGROUND:

This week, the court found Donovan Bookout committed first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and multiple other crimes stemming from a" (September 11, 2025). According to information from the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office, convictions for first-degree murder in New Mexico can result in life imprisonment without parole eligibility for at least 30 years.

Bregman also shared news regarding another conviction. In his third post of the day he wrote: "MAN WHO SEXUALLY ASSAULTED SIX-YEAR-OLD CHILD - CONVICTED --

Late this afternoon, a jury found Patrick Sarracino guilty of 

Criminal Sexual Penetration of a minor (Child Under 13) and Criminal Sexual Contact of a Minor (Child Under 13). 

The sexual abuse occurred multiple times" (September 11, 2025). State law in New Mexico mandates lengthy prison sentences for convictions involving criminal sexual penetration or contact with minors under age thirteen.

Sam Bregman serves as District Attorney for Bernalillo County. His office is responsible for prosecuting felony and misdemeanor cases within New Mexico's most populous county.
