Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández addresses public health and safety concerns in recent posts

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández, a U.S. Representative from New Mexico, addressed several issues on her social media account on September 11, 2025, including public health concerns and a developing situation at a local school.

In one post, Rep. Leger Fernández informed constituents about possible eligibility for compensation under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA). She wrote on September 11: "Did you or a loved one live near the Trinity test site, downwind of nuclear testing, or work in New Mexico’s uranium mines or mills? You may be eligible for compensation under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA).

Please follow all police guidance and stay away from the school.

In another statement posted on September 11, Rep. Leger Fernández criticized proposed legislation affecting healthcare coverage. She stated: "The Big Ugly Bill is designed to push people off Medicaid and hike health care costs — all so Republicans can hand out more tax breaks to billionaires.

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández has represented New Mexico in Congress since winning her first election in 2020. In that year, she defeated Alexis Martinez Johnson with 58.7% of the vote to Johnson's 41.3%. She retained her seat in subsequent elections, defeating Martinez Johnson again in 2022 with 58.2% of the vote and overcoming Sharon Clahchischilliage in 2024 despite receiving a lower percentage of votes than her opponent due to district-specific voting rules.
