Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has declared September 2025 as Workforce Development Month in New Mexico, aligning with similar initiatives in other states. This move highlights the state's focus on providing well-compensated and meaningful employment opportunities. Governor Lujan Grisham emphasized the importance of preparing for high-demand industries and occupations.

"Workforce development is at the heart of New Mexico’s economic growth," said Secretary Sarita Nair from the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions (NMDWS). "By investing in training and career pathways, we empower individuals to succeed and ensure our employers have the skilled workforce they need to thrive."

Throughout September, NMDWS and America’s Job Center New Mexico (AJCNM) will organize events, workshops, and career fairs aimed at connecting job seekers with employment opportunities. These events will also provide businesses with resources for hiring support, training, and retention.

The NMDWS and AJCNM offer various services including career counseling at America’s Job Centers, training opportunities with statewide education providers, work-based learning programs like registered apprenticeships, and online tools for understanding wages and qualifications for specific jobs. They also run workforce programs under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), targeting veterans, people with disabilities, tribal communities, and those re-entering the workforce after incarceration.

Success stories illustrate the impact of these programs. David from Rio Rancho became a primary caregiver at 19 but found stability through WIOA Youth program support. He gained certifications and an on-the-job placement at America’s Tire and Service. In Farmington, a job seeker transitioned from unemployment to employment after attending a job fair organized by AJCNM. Miranda, a mother from New Mexico who previously relied on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), credited the Wage Subsidy program for her ability to secure an office job.

These narratives underscore Workforce Development Month's mission: aiding New Mexicans in building careers while strengthening businesses. For more information on resources or upcoming events, visit www.dws.state.nm.us or contact your local America’s Job Center New Mexico.
