The New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) has announced the selection of Chef Becky Windels from FARMesilla in Las Cruces and Chef Julian Griego of Albuquerque’s Street Food Institute as the latest NEW MEXICO–Taste the Tradition Chef Ambassadors. This marks the third class of chef ambassadors chosen to represent New Mexico agriculture and cuisine throughout the state.
The program, which began in 2018, highlights chefs who promote local ingredients and support farmers, ranchers, and food artisans. The ambassadors participate in events, trade shows, cooking demonstrations, and community outreach efforts that focus on the importance of agriculture in daily life.
“Chefs Becky and Julian exemplify the values of our Chef Ambassador Program by showcasing the best of New Mexico agriculture in their kitchens and communities,” said New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture Jeff Witte. “They are masters of their craft and champions of our farmers and ranchers who make it possible to put local food on the table.”
Chef Windels has spent decades developing her culinary career. She is known for promoting New Mexico’s agricultural diversity, encouraging others to use locally grown products, and recognizing those who produce them.
Chef Griego is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu with more than 20 years in the industry. He combines his fine dining background with a commitment to education by training future food entrepreneurs. He also emphasizes using local ingredients, benefiting both students and producers across New Mexico.
