ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has signed two emergency orders to provide $1.5 million in state funding for agencies responding to recent flooding in Mora County. The orders were issued after heavy rainfall on August 26 and 27 led to significant damage on both public and private property.

Mora County officials requested support for repairing county roads, deploying swift water rescue teams, and supplying sandbags. The executive orders direct the New Mexico Department of Finance Administration to allocate $750,000 each to the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) and the Department of Military Affairs. These funds will be used to coordinate resources and respond to local requests.

"Executive Orders 2025-361 and 2025-362 directs the New Mexico Department of Finance Administration to allocate $750,000 to the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) and $750,000 to the Department of Military Affairs to coordinate resources to fill the requests from county and local officials."

Residents who have filed claims with the Hermit’s Peak Calf Canyon Claim’s Office are encouraged to contact their office navigator or call the helpline at 505-995-7133 if they experience new damages from this latest flooding event.

Updates about response efforts will be shared on DHSEM’s Facebook page as more information becomes available.
